Understanding swingweight in tennis and squash rackets.

Did you know...
That the weight of your racket is only one variable that determines how heavy it light it feels when you swing it
Swingweight (sometimes called dynamic weight) is a metric we can measure on a machine like the Head diagnostics unit we have instore.
You’ll see that just being focussed on the static or advertised weight of a frame may not be the whole story
Rackets with a lower weight can have a higher swing weight and vice versa.
The classic analogy is hold a hammer by the handle it feels heavy,
hold it by the head and the weight you feel when you swing if is much lighter. Of course the hammer still weighs the same but any weight further from your hand gets magnified as you swing

So how can we use this to help you?

  • Knowing your preferred swing weight makes racket selection easier.
  • When you buy multiple frames we can customize them to ensure their swing weights are matched
  • Seeing and feeling swing weights can help you narrow down your racket selection
  • Understanding swingweight helps bring some science into racket selection and will in most cases back up what you feel when swinging different frames

So don’t be obsessed with a specific static weight, let us find the best swing weight for you and then narrow down your racket selection to a few demos that you can try.

There’s many factors that influence what swing weight will most benefit you (swing size, speed , previous rackets and playing style included), but you can’t cheat or beat physics !
